President – Mike McLaughlin
Mary Hewitt and Mike McLaughlin will be working on updating the Private Party forms. There is “hold harmless” language that needs to be added. Jill suggested the forms should be shortened. She will print the forms off the website and mark them up for next meeting.
Our new site is Sunsetlakenj.org. It was suggested that we should get the community on the site then submit changes to George. Bob Papp thought it should be a beta site. eBlast the membership and let people work with it.
Vice President/Membership – Pat Holoob
Bob Papp will give Pat the membership list he has in Quick Books. Pat will be sending a form to the members to provide updated personal information. After that she will revise the current membership directory and send it out. Currently there are 14 members on mail only, no emails. We have 126 member families which can go up to 150 as voted at the Annual Meeting. Mike Gilmore has reached out to a realtor who can provide a listing of homes sold in the watershed area. Pat will use this information to reach out to new homeowners.
Clubhouse – Pat Holoob and Chris Lelli
Bathrooms are locked, and grills are just inside the doors. The water is off.
The Lorig’s are removing the lake from their XM Radio plan. We will now have to subscribe on our own. Chris Lelli will take care of it. The Direct TV was turned off as of the end of December and will be back up on March 28th. We still have a year left on our contract. If we cancel Direct TV we will still have to pay the remaining time on the contract. Chris Lelli is going to “beef up” the music at the clubhouse. He mentioned SONOS which is a high end streaming music speaker system. Both XM Radio and Direct TV are considered utilities, so they won’t come out of the clubhouse budget.
Treasury – Bob Papp
Membership dues invoices went out on January 6th, to all 126 members. We still have 30 Certificates of Entitlement, which represents a $30,000 obligation on the books. When the member wants to “cash in” their certificate, if in good standing, they can surrender it to Bob who will give them the choice of $1,000 in cash, or they can pass it on to the buyer of their home. Bob has had a bookkeeper working with him and will continue to do so a few hours a week. Bob found a binder which contained old bylaws, area of eligibility for membership and other old forms. He passed the binder on to Mike McLaughlin.
Corresponding Secretary – Lisa Kutchaver
Lisa will be doing a quarterly newsletter, which she would like to send to the membership. The email system is great for some things, but a hard copy newsletter with flyers for upcoming events is something most members would like to see again. Lets’s go back to the old way of putting the social flyers on our refrigerators. This is the best reminder of a social event. Mike McLaughlin can make copies in black and white and Larry Perez can make the color copies.
Recording Secretary – Harshal Limaye
Absent, minutes taken by Lisa Kutchaver
Environmental – open position
Grounds – Mike Gilmore
Mike would like to put the following dates on the lake calendar: May 7th Spring Cleanup, October 1st Fall Cleanup with the possibility of a chili cook-off or Oktoberfest. Mike McLaughlin mentioned May 14th or 21st as possible date for the Beerfest. The July 4th festivities will be held on Saturday, July 2nd and Mike Gilmore has volunteered to run the Fishing Derby. Mike now has full control of the parking lot gate and gate cards which he can now distribute to those missing cards. The gate is currently broken. Last year Mike had fresh sand brought in which reduced the amount of “gunk” you would step on when going swimming in the lake, and it also expanded the beach. Mike mentioned putting the chain across the opening to the ball field. Hopefully that will help keep people off the property and reduce the amount of destruction that has occurred. There is a no parking ordinance around the lake. If anyone sees trespassers, call the non-emergency Bridgewater Police phone number. The information goes on the Police Blotter.
Lifeguards – Kari O’Connell
Absent and had nothing to report
Kari sent an email that she wanted to be added to the minutes.
Kari: “I was asked by a community member, Marge Levy (not a lake member), who to thank for motivating the town to finally pave Coriell Drive. I told her of our efforts, as a board, regarding correspondence as well as in person meetings with the mayor. She asked me to relay her gratitude. It’s nice to know that even though some people choose not to join the lake association, they appreciate the value we provide to the community.”
Social – Jill and Keri Graef
Jill is looking into which events should be put on the lake calendar. Jill thinks the New Member Welcome should be separated from the Fathers Day Brunch due to the fact that many people aren’t around on Father’s Day. New Member Welcome could be held during Memorial Day weekend and Pat could distribute the badges at that time.
Calendar date possibilities:
Egg Hunt – March 19
Spring Cleanup – May 7
Beerfest – May 14
New Member Welcome and badge pickup – Memorial Day weekend
Adult Parties – June and August
Family Fun Day – June or September
Tricky Tray – September
Movie Nights – June, July, August
July 4th Celebration – July 2
Fall cleanup – October 1 with possibility of chili cookoff or Oktoberfest
Ideas for other social events are: pie eating contest, Bus trip to casino, Bus trip to Puglia Ristorante in Little Italy, NY, use of ballfield for campout. We need an alternative to July 4th fireworks other than laser show. If anyone is passionate about the fireworks, they can look into what it takes to have them here at the lake next year. Permits, insurance and fire department are a few of the things to check out.
New Business
Bob Papp attended the COLA meeting in November at Lake Mohawk. Hydro-raking is a possible alternative to dredging the lake. Bob thinks we should consider it. Lake material would be trucked out to farmers and others who would want it.
Lake member tee shirts- Jill and Keri Graef and Pat Holoob
We need new road blockades for North Shore Drive at the patio. Mike Gilmore suggested.
Snack bar during summer on the patio – Jill Graef
Lisa Kutchaver offered assistance to Pat Holoob with the directory, and Jill Graef with the social calendar.
