Sunset Lake April Board Meeting minutes

Attending: Mike M, Mike G, Maggie Potter, Lisa Kutchaver, Bob Papp, Mona Ragazzo, Harshal Limaye, Chris Lelli
Absent – Diane, Cynthia
President – Mike McLaughlin
Beaver update – NJ Fish and Wildlife are not going to extend the beaver trapping permit. The beaver season is ending and the State has done all it can until next permit period.
Geese – The treatment is working well as there is no nest.
Vice President – Bob Papp
Bob has received COLA invitation for the next meeting scheduled for Apr 22nd. The subsequent meetings will be held in June, Sep and Nov of this year. He urged anyone who’s interested, from the board or any regular member (with membership dues paid), to attend the meetings.
Treasurer – Mona Ragazzo
Expense reimbursements – Mona said she has some receipts for reimbursements that needed signatures. Erin Bolte has submitted a request in the amount of $61.08 for Easter Egg Hunt expenses.
Paperwork – The paperwork for the township annual statement for Income & Expenses has been completed. Swimming permits have been submitted.
Hydro-raking – Mona suggested to call for a special assessment of $50 to pay for lake maintenance expenses such as hydro-raking.
Special attendee Pat Rector from Rutgers
Pat attended the April meeting to educate the board about rain gardens that harvest rainwater. Any water that percolates into the ground does not run off into the lake thus preventing dumping the lake with pollutants. In the long run this will help keep the lake clean and push back dredging by a couple of years if not completely eliminate it.
Correspondent Secretary – Lisa
Lisa went over the social events calendar for this year.
Movie Nights – May 5, June 9, July 14, Aug 11, Sep 9, Oct 6
Adult Party – Aug 19
Jim Doggett has updated the website with the event calendar. Lisa will ask membership to chair social events and volunteer.
Special newsletter – Lisa presented a draft of the special newsletter to the board for review. It will be mailed out to everyone this week.
Logo wear – Lisa went over pricing for Sunset Lake branded merchandise such as T-shirts, Sweat shirts, Polos, Caps, Coolers, Tumblers.
Mike G – Grounds
Mike negotiated the contract with tree company for $3000 (brought it down from $6000). The work will start Apr 4th which includes chipping the branches and cutting the logs along the South shore.
Mike is negotiating with Aqua Tech for hydro-raking – They have quoted $10,000 which includes about 4 days for work.
Geese Spray – Waiting for it to dry to apply the geese treatment again.
Lifeguards – Maggie
Maggie has started recruiting for lifeguards. 5 are onboard, need 5 more.
Roof over the lifeguards station needs repair. Mike G will help look into it.
Chris Lelli
Inspection for water heater passed. Water will be turned on this Wednesday. Plumber is scheduled next week to come in and check on the fittings.
Mike M has bought a surveillance camera kit from Costco. Chris will get it installed at the clubhouse.
New Business
- Mike M made a motion to put Bart in the open trustee position. The board voted all in favor.
- Mona reported she has received 50% of dues
- Mike M said he will ask George Bicking for running the campout social event.
- Bob Papp suggested we should reinstate the Rudolph and Alice Meiner Award. This award will be given out every year to any member who is not on the board to recognize his/her extraordinary service to the lake.
- Lisa – Thanked Cynthia for getting her the non-members addresses for the special newsletter.
