Sunset Lake June Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order on June 2nd, 2020 7:30PM (via Zoom call)
Attendees: Mike M, Julie, Sean, Maggie, Cynthia, Regina, Harshal, Helder, John, Chris, Donna
President – Mike McLaughlin
Bathroom issues
– Women’s bathroom needs to be augered out. Sink needs work.
– Plumbers working on the bathroom.
– AJ is a younger lake member and has been very helpful.
– Bathrooms can be used, just need to fix little things like small leaks and need to be cleaned.
– Decision to open the bathrooms immediately.
Parking Issues
– People are parking in “No Parking” zones around the lake. If they do so it is at their own risk of getting a parking ticket from the Bridgewater police.
– People are parking on Colonial and then going for jogging. As long as they are parked legally this is not the lake’s concern.
– Non-members are getting into the parking lot and parking in the lot. We need to fix the gate and access cards to the gate.
– Someone is moving the barricades used to block the road in front of the clubhouse. Mike said they cannot do this and will talk to them. The lake has a permit from the town for putting up the road closure barricades between 11AM – 7PM during the swim season which runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Mike M said the lake is trying to combat trespassing, but we don’t mind if members park around the lake respecting the “No Parking” road signs. If members are parking in “No Parking” zones they are doing it at the risk of getting ticketed by the town police.
The lake will look into reinstating car (and boat) stickers for all members, so this will help identify when members park their cars on lake property.
Graduation Issues
– There have been questions and requests from members for hosting a graduation ceremony at the lake for all 2020 graduates belonging to member families.
– The board decided not to allow this as this will directly violate the state enforced rule to limit public gatherings. If it is not OK for schools to conduct a graduation ceremony it is not OK for the lake for the same reason.
July 4th
– Mike M proposed to the board to cancel the July 4th picnic given the current covid-19 situation and the board agreed.
– Julie raised a concern that even if there is no formal event the board needs to plan if too many people show up at the lake. Per NJ Governor’s mandate there is a limit of 25 people for a social gathering.
– Chris suggested we could ask the Bridgewater Police Department to patrol. Mike M agreed.
– Helder suggested we should send out emails to the membership to remind them that the 80-people rule will be enforced at the lake for 4th of July and also about the limit on the number of guests allowed.
Memorial Garden
– Maggie said Papp’s wanted to put a sign on a tree in memory of Devin. Papp’s are going to cover their own expenses for the sign.
– Regina said she got an email from Lisa Fauk requesting a bench in memory of her dad.
– one plaque per person who passes.
– Julie said anyone wanting to make alterations to the lake property must first get approval from the board.
– Maggie suggested we could make a golfing area and do a fundraiser.
John Chapman – Vice President
Nothing to report.
Treasurer – Chris
– 25 open invoices 30 full payments received, about 15 half payments received so far
– 51K in the checking account, 3K in checks not yet deposited.
– Met with Kevin, the accountant. Discrepancies in past year accounts.
– One family has paid the 2018-2019 dues, but not paid the $1000 restoration fees.
– Cynthia asked if we got money from the Lazzar family. Received $1000 and half the dues.
Membership – Cynthia
3 new application for membership:
– A motion was made to accept membership applications from Wendy Faiella and the Belamy family. The motion was seconded and voted in by the board subject to receiving the initiation fees and the membership dies from the new members.
– Palian family indicated interest in applying for membership, Mike M to call them to find out more.
Grounds – Helder
– Grass is cut. Trees are cut.
– Hickory dock steps: dug part of it, put drainage and gravel and is now walkable. Can add one more step.
– Maggie and Sean said the whole dam area and near the ball field needs to be cut.
Lifeguards – Maggie
– Maggie said she hasn’t started lifeguard duty yet.
– Thinking of different and limited hours. Most people go there around 2 or 3pm instead of the morning. But there are members who are at the beach in the morning too. Thinking of shift change from what we have traditionally done.
– Chris said he loves the idea of staggering the schedule.
Water quality – Donna
– Water is fine and is being tested every week.
– Algae bloom: if anyone sees neon green or blue vegetation in the lake she can call the lab to check if there’s any danger.
– Maggie asked if the lab can do some kind of pesticide treatment? Donna said the lab does not treat the lake, they only do testing. Maggie asked Donna to put the report in the bulletin board.
– Cynthia: Ask people not to cross contaminate by having their boats in other lakes and then putting it back in our lake.
– Regina: asked if we give members anything in the boat packet about contamination.
Clubhouse – Sean
– Trees have been removed. Corner of Corielle and N Shore has been removed.
– Parking lot gate issues: Sean tried a lot of options. He’s out of ideas. Maybe it is time to just get a new system.
Social – Julie
No Father’s Day brunch. No social activities until further notice.
New Business
Sean
– AJ was working on bathrooms.
– Emails coming through for application.
– Pay membership dues with donation instead of money. – not an option
– Google Doc with a list of projects. Membership can email Sean and take up the tasks.

– People are mixing trash with recycling.
Chris
– Carry-in-carry-out if you take it back home. Let’s use the dumpster.
– Protex Termite and Pest control. Cynthia said we hired this guy last year. First time it was $300. If you renew he will do the spray. He’s asking for $175 . Does he cover mice? There are tons of mice in the clubhouse. See what price is to add mice control. Cynthia will ask him.
– Maggie: The town guys fixed the guard rail and did the repairs by the parking lot. No parking signs will be put in next week.
The meeting adjourned at 9:40 PM.
