May 2020 Sunset Lake Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order on May 4th, 2020 at 7:30PM. (The meeting was held as a video call on Zoom)
President – Mike M
Opening the lake and the beach for swimming: Lake has submitted a permit to open the lake and have not received anything yet. No swimming. Still social-distancing. Watercraft is allowed.
Bathrooms are closed until the clubhouse opens. Clubhouse is still closed.
Opening – When the State allows it, Township gives us the swim permit.
Membership dues: Continue collecting dues. Helder suggested, don’t pay if you can’t. You can’t use the facilities. Do not penalize them and make them pay initiation fees.
Social – Given the situation many social events might get canceled. The board discussed if we should use a part of the social budget for lake improvements and maintenance. No decisions were made and this will be discussed in the next meeting.
Trespassers and cars parked along the side of the street: Increase in trespassers. Maggie said we are in the queue for road signs for No Parking.
End of Birch replaced the guard rail. Maggie asked if they could remove the gravel.
Moving stumps from the parking lot and placing them on the lake.
Some ideas discussed: Parking Tickets – Leave tickets on cars parked around the lake? Stop signs, Flashing stops signs, Speed bumps.
Cleanup – Mike said he saw gutters were cleaned.
Water drainage at the bottom of the playground. Guy who did drainage suggested Railroad ties and spreading more sand – we can do it on our own.
South shore needs to be cleaned up. Next to the boat launch has dirt and mud. Do we want it to be grass? Hydro-raking machines were going in and out and had a bare spot. Let’s leave that until we finish the next round of hydro-raking.
Sean – vegetation inside the spillway, needs to be cleaned up. Parking lot ballfield side. Helder to take this up.
Securement of the docks with chains. Down by Meiners may need a new post.
Maggie – guardrails are deteriorating Southshore near the bridge. Mike M asked Maggie to ask the town if they will fix it with guardrails.
Geese – someone saw them in the lake and looks like we have 5 or 6 in the lake. Send a message to let their dogs out on the beach to drive away the goslings.

Carpenter bee bill. Two Aquatic technology invoices asked if we are supposed to have two? Mike M asked Chris to talk to Donna to sort it out.
Checking $42K. AFCU – 122K
Remaining dues: $32,500
20 half payments, 40 full payments.

Membership – Cynthia Freund
Cynthia asked Chris if payments were received from new members for initiation fees and dues.
Julie has a friend who closed on a house in the neighborhood. She will send her to Cynthia.
Parking lot access cards – deactivating access cards. Sean said he has a list of what’s in the gate system with names, There are a lot of cards with no names. Sean asked membership to submit a Google form and got 55 responses.
Water Quality – Donna Marlowe

Environmental & Grounds – Helder
Waiting on the contractor to get back with the schedule for grass cutting. Julie said in front of Pete’s house there’s swale – can they NOT mow it because there’s some wild flowers growing there. Helder said if Julie and he can sort it out on the walkthrough. ?He has some stakes that he can put there.

It’s going to be a hard season since the certification is not going at this time. 10% for insurance?

New Business
Cynthia – if it’s nice weather can we have social distancing drinks in-person at the beach?

Annual meeting – 2nd second November

Bountiful Gardens – Beautify areas . Maggie is looking at $1000 for mulch, bench, plants.
Trying to find another place for the annual meeting.
Mike M – One of the three memorial gardens – start a new collective memorial garden. Have a bench with a plaque with their name.
Electricity – Sean said she needs to physically inspect and get back.
Sean – garbage at parking lot water bottles, bin of metal need to be recycled. Someone was in the Men’s bathroom. Mold in the urinal. Antifreeze has evaporated.
Orange boat in the parking lot Sean asked about this.
Boat racks: 3-4 weeks ago Mike spoke to the father and they are working on it, but are probably delayed.
