JULY 2015 Sunset Lake Board Meeting Minutes
Attending: Harshal Limaye, Bob Papp, Pat Holoob, Michelle Caravella, John Arcoleo, Mike Gilmore, Kari O’Connell, Bob Sellinger
Absent: Mike McLaughlin, Patti Driscoll, Diane Adams
The meeting was called to order by Vice President Pat Holoob on July 7th, 2015 at 7:45 PM.
Motions
- The board reviewed the June meeting minutes and approved them for posting to the website, facebook and the email distribution list. This review, approval, and vote occurred online prior to the July meeting.
President – Mike McLaughlin
Mike M. was absent at the meeting. He sent a message via email that the Bridgewater township had responded with a mid-Aug timeframe for paving of Corielle Drive.
Vice President – Pat Holoob
Pat H. had nothing to report.
Treasurer – Bob Papp
- Bob Papp went over the membership status and dues in arrears for current and new members.
- He also went over the financial statements for prior month.
- He recommended to the board that a new account be setup in QuickBooks dedicated for managing funds and budget for lake beautification. The board agreed.
- Bob S. asked if we should look at higher interest rate investment alternatives like the Money Market for the lake restoration fund. Currently the fund earns savings account rate. The board agreed.
Grounds – Mike Gilmore
- Mike G reported that the clean-up went well. Branches and logs were run through the chipper. The dumpster was full, so he called Bridgewater Disposal and they picked it up.
- JCP&L will take down about eight trees that are leaning on the power lines.
- Mike is planning to lower the lake in fall to assess how much muck is on the shore line. He will get a permit to lower the lake and rake and scoop.
Lifeguards – Kari O’Connell
- 7 lake members / 3 non-members total 10 lifeguards on staff.
- Min wage has increased to $8.38. Kari reported she’s starting new lifeguards at $8.50/hour and existing lifeguards are paid $8.75/hour.
- 2 shifts will run throughout summer 11am-5pm and 2pm-7pm.
- Lake member Benton L. has joined on staff. Kari requested the board members to introduce themselves to him.
- Kari thanked the volunteers who put up the ropes in the swim area.
Membership – Patti Driscoll
Patti was absent at the meeting.
Social – Michelle Caravella
July 4th picnic
- Total headcount for the picnic was 306, out of which 12 were walk-ins.
- Income collection was more than $5,000.
- There was some rain in the morning through early afternoon, but everything went smoothly.
- Laser show – got feedback that kids loved it.
- Michelle recommended next year we should look into hiring help for grilling, serving food and clean-up. She also recommended we should bring in professionals to organize kids activities.
Ladies Night Out
- This was another successful event.
- 19 ladies participated.
- There was a painting instructor and everyone had fun.
Upcoming events
- Family campout is on July 11th
- Adult Party – Aug 1st
Membership list
- Michelle requested Bob Papp for the latest membership list.
- She said she’s waiting to hear from Patty on new member info.
- Harshal recommended we put up the membership list on Google docs.
Water Quality – Diane Adams
- Diane was absent. Michele read out a report from her.
- Oxygen levels are low and if it drops too low it could kill the fish.
- e-coli is ok.
- Mike G said he had some serious communication with an official from Cupsaw Lake and who has volunteered to come down to our lake for recommendations.
- Mike also pointed out since oxygen level is low it does not reach deep down to decompose the organic material.
Environmental – John Arcoleo
john A. has nothing to report.
Correspondent Secretary – Bob Sellinger
Bob S. had nothing to report
New business
- John A. put up a proposal for getting barley hay bails to take care of the algae problem. The cost is not significant and it is worth a try. The board gave John the permission to proceed with this and passed a motion to buy 10 bails / 50 bags of barley for the purpose.
- Mike G said Cupsaw lake highly recommends york rake. It costs $5000 to take out 10 yards of organic material. The board requested Mike G to get more details.
- Bob Papp proposed to the board to institute a new service award called “Dr. Meiner’s Service Award” to be awarded every year at the annual meeting. The board loved the idea and decided to work out the details.
- Bob Papp requested a full review of the process for onboarding new members.
- Bob Papp reminded the board to start thinking about 2016 Budget.
- Michelle said she’s has received complaints that kids who are not members are using the basket ball court. Some teenager skate boards on parking lot. She pointed out that this can cause liability issues.
- Bob Papp said he is looking for a certified playground inspector to certify the equipment at the clubhouse as required by our insurance company. Kari suggested he should ask the insurance company to provide references for people who do these certifications.
- Recruiting new board members – Scouting for new people who are interested in assuming open positions at the board should be an ongoing process.
