The Lake Board is administered by eleven trustees – all volunteers from the membership. News and announcements are made by way of the lake newsletter, which is sent to members several times annually, by posted bulletins and by e-mail and through our website. A directory of our current membership is published annually. Dues are collected annually and are used solely for the preservation, maintenance and beautification of the property and lake. For additional information or an application for membership, please contact the membership chair or any board member or write to Sunset Lake Association, P.O. Box 113, Pluckemin, N.J. 07989. |

Water Quality
Swimming immediately after heavy rainfall is NOT recommended.
1. We get tested every week (usually early in the week) and post the
results on the bulletin board. The test takes 24 to 48 hours to be
cultured, returned and posted on the bulletin board.
2. The results go to the Bridgewater Health Department at the same
time. They license us to allow swimming.
3. If we get a reading above 200 coliform bacteria per the sample (in
some million parts water) for two (2) weeks in a row we could get
closed. We communicate a closing with additional signs and e-mail. Our usual
readings are in the 30 to 50 range.
4. Any time it rains the count goes up for a day or two and that is the
result of the sloppy dog walkers and other natural events that wash
into the lake from the roads and fields around. Yes, even baby diapers.
Sunlight kills the bacteria.
5. If your child is little this may be more of a concern since little
ones tend to drink the lake. Older swimmers tend to close their mouths
while swimming.
6. If your child is rundown, has a cold or has any open wounds, or has
any other medical condition, you might want to check with your doctor
before letting him or her swim immediately after a rainstorm and before
results are posted.
7. We are not aware of any illness caused by swimming in the lake over
the 80 years of the lake’s existance.
We all should be aware of changes in the environment and make decisions
on our best information.
